Nova Scotia RCMP is continuing the search for 31-year-old Tobias Doucette. Bridgewater Police Service (BPS) began a search for Doucette following an incident that occurred in the Town of Bridgewater on July 20. BPS has laid charges against Doucette for Attempted Murder in relation to one of the responding BPS members, and also in relation to the domestic assault.
Bridgewater Police Service, with assistance from Lunenburg District RCMP, searched for Doucette during the overnight hours and during the day of July 21. Once investigators determined that Doucette was in RCMP jurisdiction, the matter was turned over to the RCMP. The RCMP searched overnight and continues to attempt to locate Doucette today.
The BPS member who was stabbed is in hospital in Halifax and is recovering. During the search operation late yesterday afternoon, an RCMP Dog and Handler located Doucette briefly, and Doucette stabbed the dog and fled. The dog was immediately taken to a local vet for treatment. He is stable and continues to be closely monitored. The handler was not injured. Charges in relation to the injury to the police dog are being laid today.
The RCMP is continuing to utilize a number of resources to assist in the search. Some residents whose homes are close to the search area have been evacuated. Police will be in touch with each household when it is deemed to be safe for those residents to return to their homes.
The RCMP want Doucette to know our goal is to bring this matter to a peaceful resolution. Police appreciate the cooperation and support of individuals who have called in with tips and information. Doucette is described as an Indigenous male, 6-feet tall and 220 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes. When he was last seen in the early morning hours of July 21 he was wearing black shorts, and was not wearing a shirt or shoes.
