Wet’suwet’en First Nation Selected To Attend BC Trade Mission To China

Press Release

Wet’suwet’en First Nation is proud to announce they have been selected to accompany Premier Christy Clark and the Minister of International Trade, the Honourable Teresa Wat, on a Trade Mission to China. Starting October 30 and ending November 7, 2015, the Mission will tour four major Chinese cities: Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong and will focus on strengthening relations with key partners in the sectors of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Clean Technology, Agrifood and Seafood, and of particular importance: Liquid Natural Gas (LNG).

The 2015 China Trade Mission will provide key investors with opportunities for seminars and match making sessions to open new markets for BC Exports, attract foreign direct investment to BC, create further employment opportunities in BC, and strengthen bilateral relationship with government partners.

Out of all the delegates from BC selected to attend the Trade Mission, Wet’suwet’en First Nation is the only First Nation group that will be attending. Chief Karen Ogen will be accompanied by Wet’suwet’en First Nation Councilor, Janice Nooski and Chief Operating Officer of the Yinka Dene Economic Development General Partnership (YDEDLP), Shannon Haizimsque.

Chief Ogen’s presence was requested on the Trade Mission to help develop and build relationships with China and provide an example of how First Nations and the B.C. Government are working together to move the province’s economy forward. Chief Ogen will be presenting to Chinese business investors on what it means to build successful working relationships with First Nations in B.C., as part of the regulation of upstream natural gas in B.C. workshop. She will also be taking part in several meetings with members of the Canadian and Chinese energy sector throughout the mission.
