Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Gloria Assin.
Ms. Assin, 42, died on Sept. 23, 2012 while a backseat passenger, in custody, in an Ontario Provincial Police vehicle in Kenora. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Assin’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last one week and to hear from approximately 12 witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice, 216 Water St., Kenora. Dr. Michael Wilson will preside as inquest coroner and Nicole Stortini and Julian Roy will be counsel to the coroner.
