MMIWG – Media Advisory: Accreditation and Scheduling of Community Hearings in Greater Vancouver Region

Vancouver BC- The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Women and Girls will hold a Community Hearing at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, British Columbia from April 4-8, 2018.

Chief Commissioner Marion Buller, Commissioners Brian Eyolfson, Qajaq Robinson and Michèle Audette are expected to hear from over 100 family members and survivors through public and private hearings and artistic expressions. There will also be statement gatherers on-site that can accommodate walk-ins who may wish to register and share their truths. Scheduling runs from 9:00 am PST through 5:00 pm PST daily.

Media are invited to the public hearings. All media that want to participate must RSVP through our email account: media@mmiwg-ffada.ca. You can download the accreditation form on our website:

A mandatory technical briefing will take place on Tuesday April 3, 2018 @ 4 pm for media that would like to report on-site in Richmond. Please be prepared with identification at registration to receive your media pass.

We will meet in the lobby of the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel and then show you around the sites.

There WILL NOT be a press conference during the week. However, there will be opportunity during the week for journalists to speak with Commissioners, including:

  • in the morning before hearings start
  • during lunch break
  • or after the close of each day

You will need to provide detail requests in advance with our Communications manager on-site: Shaylen Smith. If the questions are more technical and process focused, we may direct your requests to staff that are designated as subject matter experts.

The entire process will be guided by the people of the territory. All Ceremonies are open to the public, but out of respect for local protocols no photos or video will be permitted.
