The Kivalliq Inuit Association (KIA) is seeking nominations to fill a commissioners position within the Nunavut Planning Commission (NPC). The KIA would appoint the successful nominee to this position for a period of a two (2) year term beginning in March 2025.
The NPC is an Institution of Public Government (IPG) established as an independent public agency with its roles and responsibilities set out under the Nunavut Agreement — Article 11, Land Use Planning. The NPC consults with governments, Inuit organizations and many other organizations, but it is the Commission’s responsibility to make the final decisions on how land use plans will be developed and how the plans will manage the land in Nunavut.
Interested individuals should have an acute understanding and experience in the preservation, management and protection of the land; understanding of NPC’s organizational structure and governance model; in-depth knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement; knowledge of current Land Use Plans and working knowledge of the Draft Nunavut Land Use Plan; and an understanding of technical terminology and ability to synthesize scientific data.
To be considered, candidates must demonstrate their qualifications actively and personally commit to represent the interest of beneficiaries of the Kivalliq Region and have the following minimum requirements:
• Must be atleast 18 years of age
• Must be an Inuit Beneficiary from the Kivalliq, And;
• Must be able to complete a satisfactory criminal records check
