The Government of Yukon invests $3.7 million to build 37 new affordable homes across the Yukon

The Government of Yukon is investing nearly $3.7 million in community partnerships to help build up to 37 new affordable homes across the territory as part of the eighth annual intake of the Housing Initiatives Fund.

This year’s funding supports 10 projects in Whitehorse, Dawson, Haines Junction, Faro and Mayo. These projects will increase access to affordable housing and help respond to growing housing needs in Yukon communities.

Projects in Whitehorse will be led by the following proponents:

• Gilday Holdings;
• Gateway Housing;
• Vimy Heritage Housing Society; and
• Council of Yukon First Nations.

Projects in Yukon communities will be led by the following proponents:

• First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun in Mayo;
• One private proponent in Faro;
• Two private proponents in Dawson; and
• Two private proponents in Haines Junction.

Since launching the program in 2018, the Housing Initiatives Fund has committed close to $40 million in funding, supporting over 100 housing projects across the territory. These investments have created local economic opportunities, strengthened communities and helped meet the Yukon’s diverse housing needs.

Access to affordable housing is essential to building healthy, thriving communities. Through the Housing Initiatives Fund, we are increasing the supply of affordable homes across the territory while supporting local economies and community-driven solutions. These new partner-led projects will help ensure more Yukoners have a safe, stable place to call home – now and into the future.

Quick facts

• The eighth intake for Housing Initiatives Fund projects ran from December 14, 2024, to March 15, 2025.
• Applications for the project concepts funding stream are accepted year-round.
• The Housing Initiatives Fund requires that units are energy efficient, that 20 per cent of the units in multi-unit buildings are built to accessibility standards and that units remain affordable for 20 years.
• Funding can be combined with other Yukon Housing Corporation programs, such as the Municipal Matching Rental Construction Program and the Developer Build Loan Program, as well as federal funding initiatives.
