Additional Yukon firefighters deployed to Alberta

The Government of Yukon is deploying additional firefighting resources to Alberta to assist with wildfire response.
A Yukon First Nations Wildfire unit crew left Whitehorse on June 6, accompanied by a Yukon government agency representative. In total, the unit crew includes 20 sustained-action firefighters. They will be deployed for up to 19 days.
The unit crew is available for this deployment as fire activity in the territory is currently low to moderate. Adequate crews will remain at all Yukon fire bases. Should the fire situation change locally, the government can bring resources back to the Yukon within 24 hours.
Helping neighbours is what Yukoners do. We are pleased to offer our resources to support Alberta during their time of need.

- The Government of Yukon is a member of the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre and the Northwest Compact.
- When jurisdictions need additional resources, they put in a request through this national organization.
- Jurisdictions that can provide those extra resources will do so through the Mutual Aid Resource Sharing (MARS) Agreement.
- Personnel can be deployed for up to 19 days depending on the needs of the receiving agency. Personnel can be recalled within 24 hours if needed in the Yukon.
