Subsidised daycare support for Nunavummiut on income assistance

The Department of Family Services is offering the Day Care Subsidy Allowance to help Nunavummiut receiving income assistance pay for child care for children under the age of 12.

This subsidy makes child care more affordable for low-income families in Nunavut. If you are an Income Assistance client and are working, attending school, or in a training program, you may qualify for up to $700 per month to help cover the cost of licensed or unlicensed child care.

Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Live in Nunavut.
  • Are 18 years of age or older.
  • Are an approved Income Assistance client.
  • Are employed, in school, or enrolled in a training program.
  • Have a child or children under the age of 12 who require child care.

What Does the Subsidy Cover?

  • Up to $700/month toward child care costs.
  • Both licensed and unlicensed child care providers are eligible.

Apply through your community Income Assistance Worker or local licensed child care facility.

What You’ll Need to Apply

  • Name and age of each child needing care.
  • Number of hours of care needed per week.
  • Proof of day care expenses (signed by provider).
  • Proof of employment, school, or training (signed by employer/instructor).
  • Proof of family income (e.g., pay stub).
  • Proof of living expenses (e.g., rent, mortgage, utilities).
