NWT Fire says a planned burn to help keep a wildfire away from Fort Providence has finished, while it rained in Whatì overnight. Get the latest on the territory’s wildfires on this page.
Mayor Danny Beaulieu said the work in Fort Providence “went fairly well even though conditions were not ideal.”
“I feel this will prevent the fire from getting closer to the community,” he told residents in an update late on Tuesday.
NWT Fire said the burn had removed vegetation from the fire guard north of Fort Providence in front of wildfire SS014. That fire, which is less than a kilometre from the community in places, triggered an evacuation of the hamlet on Sunday.
