About the Career Camps

Makigiaqta, and its Partners are working together to host annual Career Camps for Nunavut Inuit youth (Ages 13 to 18) to bring together secondary school students who are interested in pursuing a career in the Health, Finance or Science (STEAM) field.

The annual camps will take place in Iqaluit for Health Camps, Rankin Inlet for Finance Camps and Cambridge Bay for STEAM. (Location is subject to hotel and conference room availability)

Up to 25 Inuit youth (per camp) in secondary schools in Nunavut will participate in a week-long activities where they will:

  • Discuss career option that are available in NU communities and are accessible to them.
  • The camp will give students opportunities to speak in front of the group and build confidence as they learn about different career options.
  • Promote Inuit culture and values and provide opportunities for a deeper understanding of Nunavut’s Cultural History

The Career Camps provide opportunities for youth to explore their interests; discover new skills; and make a meaningful connection between where they are now, what they can achieve, and how to get there. Perhaps most importantly, these opportunities were designed to help young people learn about opportunities for a brighter future and full career.
