Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, Manitoba (May 17, 2026) — The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) is sending condolences to the family, loved ones, and citizens of Poplar River First Nation following the tragic death of a six-year-old girl reported missing early Saturday morning.

“Our hearts are broken for this family and for the entire community of Poplar River,” said Grand Chief Kyra Wilson. “No parent, no family, and no Nation should ever have to endure this kind of pain. Today, all of Manitoba First Nations stand with Poplar River in grief.”

AMC also acknowledged the immediate response from community members, leadership, local volunteers, fire department personnel, and search teams who came together to search for the child.

“In moments like this, we see communities come together with love, urgency, and care for one another,” said Wilson. “We hold everyone affected in our prayers tonight.”

The AMC extends its deepest condolences to the child’s family and asks Manitobans to keep Poplar River First Nation in their thoughts during this devastating time.
