Sault police board wants Indigenous adviser – Sault Star

An Indigenous elder will advise Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board members.

The position is sought by chair Nuala Kenny due to the large number of Indigenous men and women in jail.

“What’s happening there?” said Kenny during a board meeting on Wednesday. “Is that (prejudice)? Is that a systemic racism? Is it a targeting? Is it a problem within Indigenous women and community? I don’t know, but it sure makes me concerned and I’m acutely concerned sitting on this board as chair.”
