WINNIPEG, Man./TORONTO, Ont. — Manitoba’s Eagle Vision (EV) and Ontario’s Sinking Ship Entertainment Inc. (SSE) are proud to announce the greenlight of the new 52 x 11’ preschool series Stevie and the Sacred Animals by lead commissioner CBC with APTN, Knowledge Kids and TELUS Independent. Co-created by Lisa Meeches and Rebecca Gibson, the series brings together vibrant 2D animation and real footage shot in a First Nation community, creating a rich visual world rooted in land, culture, and family. Production begins this spring and the series is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
Stevie and the Sacred Animals follows Stevie, a smart and spunky six-year-old Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) girl who moves from the city to her First Nation community. With the help of her cousins, Stevie learns about her relationship to Mother Earth and all living things. Along the way, they are joined by seven baby Sacred Animals, each with lessons of their own to learn as they grow. Each episode features the beautiful, heartfelt music of the award-winning duo Burnstick, as well as an Anishinaabemowin language lesson.
“We are honoured to bring Lisa and Rebecca’s vision to kids and families across Canada. Their partnership with Sinking Ship will give the series a stunning visual style that will feature the natural beauty of the land in a way that many kids have not seen before,” said Marie McCann, Senior Director, Children’s Content, CBC Kids. “We know families at home and around the world will cherish these stories and the gentle lessons they offer.”
Stevie and the Sacred Animals represents a meaningful collaboration between Eagle Vision — one of Canada’s leading majority Indigenous-owned production companies — and Sinking Ship Entertainment, internationally recognized for award-winning children’s media. Together, the partners aim to bring forward a series that celebrates Indigenous knowledge, intergenerational teachings, and the deep connections between children, community, and the natural world.
Co-created by Meeches and Gibson, the series is show-run by Dinae Robinson and J.J. Johnson and directed by Tara Audibert. Kyle Irving joins Meeches and Gibson as executive producers from Eagle Vision. CBC is the lead commissioning broadcaster, with APTN, Knowledge Kids, and TELUS Independent also on board. For CBC, Sally Catto is General Manager, Entertainment, Factual and Sports; Marie McCann is Senior Director, Children’s Content, CBC Kids; and Lisa Cinelli is Executive in Charge of Production, CBC Kids. Additional support comes from the Indigenous Screen Office, Manitoba Film & Music, Canada Media Fund, Shaw Rocket Fund, and the Cogeco TV Production Program. SSE is attached to distribute the series internationally.
