Economic Development – Policy Analyst/Coordinator
The Chiefs of Ontario is inviting applications for the position of Policy Analyst/Coordinator: Economic Development Sector. The Policy Analyst/ Coordinator will be a key member of the Economic Development Sector.
LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement work plans related to First Nation economic development priorities.
- Assist the Economic Strategic Sector with the interpretation of legislation, policies, and government programs related to economic development, finance, banking, and infrastructure.
- Coordinate and actively participate in the relevant collaborative working concerning the Chiefs Committee on Economic Development and Prosperity Table.
- Support Prosperity Table policy development by assisting in planning, research, and coordination of projects and activities.
- Assist the Economic Strategic Division with the interpretation of legislation, policies, and government programs related to First Nation employment, and economic development.
- Prepare position and research papers, briefing notes, presentations, and policy documents on required matters.
- Participate in various meetings and events with representatives of First Nations, provincial, and federal governments, and other organizations.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with government ministries, First Nation communities, and organizations to ensure effective dialogue and collaboration between partners.
- Coordinates meetings, including booking rooms/flights, etc.
- Travel will be required from time to time.
RELEVANT SKILLS:
- Relevant post-secondary education equivalent to an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, preferably in economics, finance, legal, or other related fields.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, history, values, and expectations.
- Knowledge of First Nations economic development issues.
- Education or working experience in the economic development sphere.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation, policies, and programs.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills are required.
- Excellent research, writing, and presentation skills.
- Experience leading discussion groups and providing presentations to large forums.
- Excellent organizational & information management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software.
- Self-directed, motivated, and able to work independently.
- Adaptable and flexible to meet needs as they are determined.
- Skills pertaining to coordinating, and scheduling office work.
- At ease with booking travel and hotels.
- Additional duties as necessary.
DURATION: April 2023 – March 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability.
