Financial assistance available for people evacuated from homes in Saskatchewan

The Canadian Red Cross today announced that financial assistance is available for eligible households evacuated from their primary residence due to wildfires in Saskatchewan. The financial assistance is thanks to the $15 million committed to the Canadian Red Cross by the Government of Saskatchewan (announced in June 2025) and is designed to contribute to households moving into their recovery.

Eligible households will receive financial assistance to help support their ongoing recovery. The Canadian Red Cross will distribute financial assistance directly to eligible households who are not members of a First Nation community. Eligible households who are members of a First Nation community will receive financial assistance through their community leadership.

QUICK FACTS:

Re-entry support

• $750 in one-time financial assistance for households whose primary residence is in a community that was evacuated for more than seven days, and where the evacuation order has been lifted.
• This assistance is intended for on-going needs such as food, transportation, or clean-up supplies as people return to their community.

Extended displacement support

• $2,000 in one-time financial assistance for households whose primary residence is in a community that was evacuated for more than seven days and have been unable to return home for 30 days.
• This assistance is intended for on-going needs such as food, lodging, transportation, personal services or child-care costs for households who remain displaced due to loss of their primary residence or an inability to access their home community. This may include additional support for households to access mental health and counselling support, based on identified needs.
• Eligible households who will receive financial assistance due to their extended displacement are also eligible to receive re-entry support when their evacuation order is lifted.

Eligible households in non-First Nation communities must be registered with the Canadian Red Cross. If households have already registered, they do not need to re-register as this may result in delays in receiving financial assistance.

Eligible households in non-First Nation communities, who have not yet registered with the Red Cross can do so by:

• calling 1-800-863-6582 between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. MT, or
• by visiting redcross.ca/2025SaskatchewanWildfires to find the reception centre nearest them.
