‘I feel I need to represent missing, murdered Indigenous women and help bring the sisters home and find them, or find answers,’ says teen
Members of the local Indigenous community gathered at Meridian Place in downtown Barrie on Monday to mark Red Dress Day, an annual event to honour the hundreds of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirited people.
The May 5 event also marks the commitment of the community to address the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) Calls for Justice. The day of remembrance honours survivors of assault and abuse.
