Indigenous Screen Office, APTN and CBC Support Two Indigenous Scripted Pre-Development Projects

Indigenous Screen Office, APTN and CBC Support Two Indigenous
Scripted Pre-Development Projects

October 16, 2023

Toronto, Ont. —  APTN, CBC and the Indigenous Screen Office (ISO) are excited to announce the selection of two Indigenous scripted series that will soon be in pre-development through the CBC-APTN Early Stage Scripted Development Program in association with the ISO. The creative team for each production will have access to CBC and APTN executives, who will provide custom-tailored support for both series. The program aims to advance the projects of emerging Indigenous storytellers to the next stage of development and, ultimately, into production.

The projects for 2023-2024 are:

Halfbreed (Drama)
Producers: Berkley Brady, Erin Sharp and Nicolina Lanni
Production company: Nika Productions Inc.
Province: Alberta

Matter of Time (Comedy)
Producers: Janelle Wookey and Jérémie Wookey
Production company: Wookey Films Inc.
Province: Manitoba

Now in its second year, the Early Stage Scripted Development Program provides training and support for Indigenous creators who are at a stage in their careers where they are ready to start developing a major scripted series. The program will see each team work with the broadcasters through various steps in the pre-development process: creating a series bible, deepening character and story arcs, nurturing broadcaster relationships, building a team, pitching the project, preparing the budget and more.
