Indigenous youth basketball tournament set for UVic in June – Chemainus Valley Courier

Coastal Wave Basketball will host its first Indigenous youth tournament in Saanich this summer.
The event is set for June 5 to 7 at the University of Victoria, with roughly 40 teams and more than 650 players from across Vancouver Island expected to take part. The tournament marks a first for Coastal Wave Basketball, which focuses on supporting Indigenous youth through sport, with a particular emphasis on girls. The organization has built its programs around combining basketball with cultural pride and strong community ties, something organizers say will carry into the tournament setting.
