Tootoo is a powerful and poignant documentary that delves into one of hockey’s most remarkable stories. Jordin Tootoo’s journey is a testament to perseverance, resilience, and courage, told through an authentic lens that shines a light on important issues impacting communities across North America.
This film is not about placing blame; it’s about inspiring, informing, and healing. Jordin Tootoo was unstoppable on the ice—an international star, fan favorite, and leader. Drafted by the Nashville Predators in 2001 and making history in 2003 as the first player of Inuk descent in the NHL, Tootoo quickly became a force to be reckoned with.
Despite his on-ice triumphs, Tootoo faced significant personal challenges, including the devastating loss of his older brother just before his debut with the Predators. Battling these pressures, he faced his own struggles, including a battle with alcohol addiction. In 2010, he courageously entered rehab, defying the odds and continuing his fight both on and off the ice.
“ It doesn’t matter what nationality you are, what colour skin you have. The sport of hockey is meant to be played by everybody.” – Jordin Tootoo.
Tootoo is told in Jordin Tootoo’s own bold voice, offering a raw and honest look at a man who has faced every challenge head-on and fought to rise above life’s toughest game. The film celebrates his incredible career, his advocacy for mental health and Indigenous youth, and his ongoing contributions to the hockey community.
Michael Hamilton, Adam Scorgie, and Shane Fennessey are award-winning filmmakers, who bring their renowned storytelling expertise to this powerful documentary.
The Super Channel broadcast premiere along with National and International screening details will be announced later this year.
