Judge quashes Alberta separation petition over lack of Indigenous input – CBC Player
An Alberta judge overruled the provincial chief electoral officer’s approval of a petition seeking a referendum on separating from the rest of Canada. One reason for quashing the approval was that the judge found the province failed in its duty to consult with the applicants: Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, Blood Tribe, Piikani Nation and Siksika First Nation.
