Media Availability: Kamloops RCMP and SD73 Youth Academy

The Kamloops Community Policing Unit and the School District 73 are excited to announce the return of the RCMP Youth Academy.

After a two-year hiatus caused by Covid 19, the mini RCMP Depot experience will run during spring break from March 19-24 at Brocklehurst Middle School.

Over the six days, 17 students in Grades 11 and 12 will sleep in barracks, participate in daily fitness activities, attend drill and police defensive tactic classes, participate in scenarios, and learn about the numerous units and partnerships within the RCMP. Presenters attending throughout the week include those form the Indigenous Policing Service, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC, Underwater Recovery Unit, BC Sheriffs, BC Correctional Officers, BC Prosecution Service, and others.

The Kamloops RCMP and SD73 are offering a media availability to allow members of the press to attend the academy and obtain interviews, photos, and video of the participants and presenters.

Who: Kamloops RCMP Community Policing Unit, School District 73, and Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit – BC (CFSEU).

What: Media availability during a CFSEU presentation by Sgt. Brenda Winpenny.

Where: Brocklehurst Middle School, 985 Windbreak St., Kamloops.

When: Monday March 21, 2022, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Members of the media are asked to arrive between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., as this event is not open to the public.

Why: To allow local media access to the private event, as well as interview opportunities with participants and presenters.
