Families and relatives of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Quebec,
The National Inquiry is looking for you to get involved. QNW encourages you to be in contact with the Inquiry to make your voices heard throughout this process.
What you need to know:
This inquiry is looking into the systemic causes of all forms of violence against Indigenous women and girls in Canada. Distance, isolation and the unknown define disappearance. Thus, its form varies: abduction, suicide, placement of children in care, lost of contact, murder or any other forms of disappearance under mysterious circumstances.
You can be involved on two levels:
- You have to fill out an application for standing.
The forms are available on the Commission’s website. They have to be sent at the same time before April 10, 2017. Here is the link: http://www.mmiwg-ffada.ca/en/legal-notices-and-documents/.
- Survivors of violence as well as families and relatives of MMIWG who would like to testify and share their experiences don’t have to apply for standing.
There are four ways to participate into the Commission: you can share your experience at public hearings, through a private testimony to Commissioners, through a trained person at the Commission or through art.
You have to give precise details on your loved one, like her name and her place and date of birth. It is also important to understand the circumstances leading to your loved one’s violent/wrongful/suspicious death or unexplained disappearance. You can contact the Inquiry through email or Facebook.
