Nominations open for the Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award

Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond in emergency management?

Nunavut Emergency Management is now accepting nominations, on behalf of the Government of Canada, for the Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award (EMESA). This national award recognizes individuals and teams who have made an exceptional contribution to emergency management in Canada. This is an opportunity to recognize Nunavummiut and their teams whose work helps keep communities safe.

Awards are granted in five categories:

  • Resilient communities.
  • Search and rescue volunteers.
  • Search and rescue employees.
  • Next generation.
  • Outstanding contribution to emergency management.

This could include someone who has shown strong leadership or service in emergency planning, emergency response, training, coordination, volunteer work, or community preparedness.

Nominations can be submitted to Nunavut Emergency Management (NEM) at nem@gov.nu.ca by April 30, 2026. NEM can provide guidance and support to anyone interested in submitting a nomination package.

What to include in your submission:

  • A nominator form.
  • A nominee form.
  • Two written testimonials in support of the nomination.

Supporting materials such as letters, media articles, or other documentation can also be submitted. Nominations should describe achievements from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025.
