Notice of Draft Nunavut Land Use Plan Third Technical Meeting

Pursuant to section 11.5.4 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) and section 51 of the

Nunavut Planning and Project Assessment Act (Canada) (NUPPAA), the Nunavut Planning

Commission (NPC) will conduct a Public Hearing on the Draft Nunavut Land Use Plan (DNLUP), tentatively scheduled for November 21 to 27, 2016, in Iqaluit at a location that has yet been determined. The NPC will issue further public notices on additional procedural steps and timelines that will take place prior to the Public Hearing, including dates for the filing of documents, written submissions and responses, arguments, and the final date, time and location of the Public Hearing.

Participants’ technical experts are invited to attend an in-person Technical Meeting from January 18 – 22, 2016 at the Siniktarvik Hotel and Conference Center, Salon A/B: Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. Pursuant to rule 20.1 of the NPC’s Rules of Procedure for Public Hearings and Public Reviews as amended on

July 8, 2015 (RPHPR), participants and the NPC will discuss whether documents filed with the

Commission relating to a proceeding contains the information necessary to proceed to a hearing, and will review and discuss available information prior to a hearing including, but not limited to:

  • options for potential refinements to the DNLUP developed in consideration of participants’ previous submissions;
  • informational requirements for supporting land use designations requested by participants; and
  • retaining experts and submission of expert reports by the NPC and participants.

An agenda for the workshop, and a document presenting options for potential refinements to the DNLUP will be distributed to participants shortly.

Participants are asked to confirm attendance at the Technical Meeting, including anticipated number of attendees, by January 11, 2016, unless this information has already been provided.
