Reminder: Government of Nunavut invites artists to apply for artist-in-residence program 2026

Press Release

December 16, 2025

The Department of Culture and Heritage is reminding resident Nunavut Inuit visual and media artists to apply for a four-week residency at the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq. The residency will take place from March 6 to April 3, 2026.

The Government of Nunavut’s artist-in-residence program gives Inuit artists the opportunity to produce work, provide advice, and promote the GN’s Inuit art collection. Artists will have daily access to a studio space at WAG-Qaumajuq and to the gallery’s media arts equipment and facilities.

The selected artists will be given a one-time $10,000 artist fee, a daily expense allowance, and accommodation within walking distance to the gallery. Round-trip travel costs from the artist’s home community to Winnipeg and any materials required for workshops or public events will also be covered.

Due to space limitations and environmental concerns, the program is currently unable to provide studio space for stone carvers.

A committee of representatives from the Government of Nunavut, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated and the WAG-Qaumajuq will select the successful applicants.
