SCO Seeking Donations to Support Our Evacuated Northern Relatives

The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is seeking donations to support our evacuated relatives who have been impacted by the wildfires.

Our hope is to offer a little extra comfort by accepting the following donations:

  • Baby items: Clothes, formula, playpens, and strollers
  • Blankets and sheets (sized to fit a cot)
  • Clothing: Summer clothing, socks, underwear (new items only), hats
  • Combs and brushes
  • Colouring books and craft supplies for children
  • Kleenex, toilet paper, and Wet Ones
  • Pillows
  • Towels and face cloths
  • Toiletries: Bars of soap, deodorant, antiperspirant, lip balm, menstrual products, razors and shaving cream, shampoo, toothpaste
  • Treats/snacks: Granola bars, fruit snacks, nuts, chocolate, drink boxes
  • Non-perishable foods

Note: All snacks and donated food items must be in their original packaging.

You can drop donations off at SCO’s offices during our business hours* from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

    Please note: Our Dauphin office is only able to receive donations from 8:30 am to 12 noon each weekday.

SCO is also accepting donations at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg from June 2 to 6 during the Treaty event/status card clinic. Donors can drop items off at the RBC Convention Centre from 11 am to 7 pm each day.

“The Southern Chiefs’ Organization cares for our relatives from northern Manitoba and is developing plans to provide support and assistance to the 17,000+ citizens who are being displaced from their homes. Our Mobile Crisis Response Team will provide frontline assistance to evacuees in southern Manitoba,” stated SCO Grand Chief Jerry Daniels. “SCO will start a donation drive to gather the most-needed supplies for the evacuees. On behalf of the 32 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations that SCO represents, I send prayers for all those who are impacted by these fires. I also extend gratitude to the Chiefs and Councils for your leadership and commitment to your citizens, along with the firefighters, the first responders, emergency management teams, the Red Cross, and all others who are helping to coordinate a response to this emergency.”

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs is accepting monetary donations to help evacuees.

Cheques can be made payable to Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.

Cheques can be dropped off at 286 Smith Street, 2nd Floor, Winnipeg or mailed to 200-275 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 2B3

All funds received will go directly toward supporting the urgent needs of evacuees during this emergency.
