More work to do toward truth and reconciliation, Indigenous Services minister says – Montreal Gazette

“Often people think that residential school was hundreds of years ago. It is not. It is a reality. We see many survivors here with us today,” Mandy Gull-Masty says.

On the fifth National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Canada’s minister of Indigenous Services said more work must be done to unravel the racist legacy of the residential school system.

Mandy Gull-Masty, MP for Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou and member of the Cree Nation of Waswanipi in northern Quebec, presented to an auditorium full of students in orange shirts at John Abbott College on Tuesday.
